The Jason Pastras Trio delivers an amalgamation of blues, rock and funk with a psychedelic inflection. The band has much in common with the guitar-based psychedelic trios of the 60's - they love riffage and jamming in the vein of the mighty Jimi Hendrix Experience and Cream - while also recalling the funkier, late-period work of greats like Albert King, or the Federal records output of Freddie King.

Jason Pastras Portrait

Jason Pastras:"As a young musician, I was always very into late 60's bands while also being very into traditional electric blues at the same time. I listened to Albert King, B.B. King, and Albert Collins religiously as a kid. When I started playing in bands, I always wanted my bands to sound like a mash up of classic blues and heavier, fuzzier, more excessive late 60's and 70's bands. As I got older, I got more into players like Freddie King, Magic Sam, Gatemouth Brown, T-Bone Walker, and Lightnin' Hopkins. From there, I moved on to more contemporary players like Lurrie Bell (AWESOME), Big Jack Johnson, Anson Funderburgh, Ronnie Earl, and others. There was a period of time during which classic blues in that vein was the template for my band's sound, but I always wander back to something that combines the raw bluesiness of a unit like the Jelly Roll Kings with 70's funkiness and the fuzzed-out psychedelia that I've always loved."

Thanks to their versatility in being able to play authentic blues, funk, soul and psychedelic freakouts, the Jason Pastras Trio has been fortunate to gig in a wide variety of Atlanta venues, including Darwin's Blues (Jason Pastras hosted the jam there for years), Blind Willie's, Fat Matt's, Nik's Back Porch, Maddie's BBQ, and many other stalwart institutions of Atlanta's Blues scene.
